Poggio Porsenna - Proceno (Italy)

HOW TO GET HERE:


Motorway A1, Orvieto tollgate: follow the signs to Acquapendente. After the town center, still go on for 4 km on the National SS Cassia towards Siena, turn left for Proceno. After the town center, nearby the Cemetery, you will find the sign for the "POGGIO PORSENNA" farmhouse (1 km).

From SS Cassia - Viterbo (South): reach Acquapendente, go beyond the town center, still go on for 4 km on the National SS Cassia towards Siena, turn left for Proceno. After the town center, nearby the Cemetery, you will find the sign for the "POGGIO PORSENNA" farmhouse (1 km).

From SS Cassia - Siena (North): on the National SS Cassia, 200 mt after the Paglia River bridge turn right for Proceno. After the town center, nearby the Cemetery, you will find the sign for the "POGGIO PORSENNA" farmhouse (1 km).



We are located in the upper part of Tuscia (northern Lazio), 20 km from Bolsena Lake on the S.S. Cassia, that continues up to Montalcino, Siena and Florence, in a triangle like a wedge between Tuscany and Umbria. Our little town, only 500 inhabitants, is Proceno (just 1 Km), the last of the Province of Viterbo.

Here you can find shops, restaurants, bar and tennis and football playing fields.

We are also close to Acquapendente (8 km), also offering shops, supermarkets, a cinema and an information center.

From the hill of POGGIO PORSENNA you can appreciate a limitless panorama, clearly recognizing Monte Amiata, the Castle of Radicofani, the Riserva naturale of Monte Rufeno and river Paglia's valley.



EXCURSIONS AND PLACES TO VISIT


Poggio Porsenna farmhouse is located in a favorite position between the Sienese Cretes, the calanques of Umbria and the green lowlands of the Maremma. This means that you can easily reach any touristic, historic and interesting place in the Central Italy. Here is a short guide, trying to help you to make your choice.


ACQUAPENDENTE (8 km)
visit to the town and to the Riserva naturale of Monte Rufeno. The reserve has an extension of over 3000 hectares. Access and circulation within the Reserve are free starting from one hour before dawn until one hour after sunset. Excursions can be effected along the wonderful paths, or to follow nature routes, accompanied also by experienced guides, that you will find near the visit center of the Reserve site in Acquapendente. There is also a center of equestrian tourism and pic-nic areas. There is a museum of the flower, located inside the Reserve.

BOLSENA LAKE (25 km).
The lake has a volcanic origin and has clear and fishy water. Bathing is possible, and you can easily rent a boat. There are some small towns around the lake: Marta, Capodimonte and Valentano.

VITERBO (50 km)
Province main city is a medieval history jewel, with the ancient district San Pellegrino. You can visit the sanctuary of Santa Rosa, protectress of Viterbo, Villa Lante in Bagnaia, the Palazzo dei Papi and the Museums. Around Viterbo you can visit the Monster's Park of Bomarzo, with really big and impressive stone sculptures. Northbound and rising to Orvieto you can also visit Bagnoregio with the medieval CIVITA DI BAGNOREGIO, and Montefiascone and its famous wine, EST! EST!! EST!!!.

ROMA (140 km)
About an hour and a half is enough to reach Rome, the Capital of Italy. May we suggest you to go by car to Orvieto railway station, where you can easily park, and switch to the central Rome by train (Stazione Termini). From here you can reach any interesting part of Rome, moving with the two underground lines.
